Hello Group!

As a not so recent convert to the Linux side, I am embarrassed to say how little I know about the command line. In about 2012, I completely gave up on Windows. (I cut my teeth on DOS 3.0) It was a ridiculous mess of updates, upgrades, patches and crashes. The Windows systems I used went from 3.1 to XP, (thankfully avoided ME, Vista, and some other fail), with my longest relationship in 2000. For the most part, everything worked, but every few years...shell out another $100, oh, and by the way, you'll probably need a new box too! (Well, only if you wanted it to boot the same day you turn it on I suppose!) I ran dual boot for about 2 years, and decided that I used Windows so little, it was ridiculous to spend so much time updating, researching, and fixing things in it any longer.

So, I QUIT! And I have never been happier! Currently running Xubuntu 16.04, and loving it! No, it hasen't been totally without issue, but thanks to community support such as LQ, and dedicated developers, it has been as smooth as I can imagine an OS being. Automatic updates, clean interfaces, great communities, and low cost or free software! I will never go back unless there is nothing else in the world!

One thing I have begun doing since joining the Linux side, is not just taking all the time. I will, when able, donate a few bucks to the cause. If that is my favourite software, or a website like Wiki, I will throw in when I can. If I ever win the lottery, some folks will just love me, as they will be winners too!

So, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! May the penguin be with you!

Cheers,
-fab
