Hello from Missouri

New to this. Need to download version to replace RedHat that I purchased years ago and never installed until now. Had some unix experience in the workplace before retiring over 10yrs ago. want to totally replace microsoft and its aps on an old compaq that previously had windowsME (98) installed.

Hi and welcome to LQ.

For a desktop use (as opposed to a server) I'm not sure Red Hat / CentOS are best solutions.
Check the www.distrowatch.com and download some Live CDs to try on your laptop.
