For all intents and purposes I'm a Linux newbie. Have just installed Linux Mint 19 (which I think is great so far) on my second desktop.
With the help of people on the LM forums I have got it up and running but I figure membership here would also be useful - the more input to some questions, the merrier, eh.
It would appear my wifi card has killed itself, so I'm on the lookout for a new one - inexpensive, available locally (or at least quickly) and (most importantly) one that will work in Linux!
I'll do a forum search but if anyone happens to know of a relevant thread then feel free to point me there
As regards the wifi card, if it's Broadcom or Realtek, you may have a driver problem; they can be got working on Linux, but it usually takes some extra steps. You can use the lspci command to find out the chipset, then post in the Networking/wireless forum. Otherwise, if you must purchase new, Intel Inside generally works and plays well with Linux.
Thanks. lspci doesn't work as the system doesn't even recognise that the thing is plugged in.
The aerial and plug for ch0 is broken leaving ch1, ch 2 remaining. Not sure if this may be the problem but I'd have thought that would only affect reception strength not whether its detected at all.
I think I'll need to buy a new card or usb (obviously with a desktop, card would possibly be better?)
I've included this in case it's helpful to anyone posting in this thread - my current specs.
I'm connected to internet via ethernet cable currently.
