wlan0 not listed. Can't access the internet

I am using Yoper on a Dell Inspiron 8500 with a mini pci wireless card. I am trying to use ndiswrapper to connect wireleslly to the internet. I have added the driver successfully but iwconfig and ifconfig shows that there is no wlan0 listed. There is lo, dummy, eth0 which is the ethernet card and eth1 which says is unspecified. All say "no wireless config".
I have tried iwconfig wlan0 up etc but a message says no such device.
This works in Knoppix but not in Yoper. Any ideas PLEASE?

Check your /etc/modules.conf or /etc/modprobe.conf (depending of kernel version) to see if you have a line like this:
Code:
alias wlan0 ndiswrapper

Have you added the windoze driver of your hardware?
Code:
modprobe -i driver.inf
before modprobing ndiswrapper

No I hadn't done modprobe -i bcmwl5a.inf. When I do I get "Fatal error bcmwl5a not found".

Find the windoze drivers for your card either on CD or by downloading then and use:
Code:
modprobe -i /path/to/drivers/somefile.inf
it's not necessary for the file to be called bcmwl5a.inf

success

I decided to reinstall yoper and then try ndiswrapper again. Wireless connection now working. I can't get theeth0 to work though but perhaps
u can't have everthing. I cant use the apt facility though as connection to yoper times out. Google etc loads immediately but not anything to do with
yoper's website. Thanks again
