Running Slackware with ndiswrapper with a Broadcom wireless adapter.
At work I see the Dlink wireless access point and connect to it with DHCP with no problems.
At home I see the Netgear wireless router (iwlist wlan0 scanning shows its MAC and SID) but when I "ifconfig wlan0 up" and "dhcpcd wlan0" it times out - won't grab an IP. The signal is great with little noise. If I setup an IP address manually on that interface I can't ping anything over the connection.
Windows on this same notebook works fine with the Netgear router (I'm using it to post this message).
I think you need to change your ESSID...basically the name of the wireless point to connect to. I think you do it by typing "iwconfig wlan0 essid <myessid>" on the command line (probably as root or by using sudo). So when you do your "iwlist wlan0 scan" it should list your essid at home and just set it to that using the above command. Hope that solves your wireless problems. =)
Nope. It already has the ID in there, and I tried setting it anyway with iwconfig but no help. Good idea, though. It still doesn't work.
Thanks! Hopefully I'll be able to figure this one out. Maybe I just need to get a Dlink router here at home and trash the Netgear. I'm not too happy with Netgear since they started giving out my email address anyway.
are you using ndiswrapper to get your wireless working? If not then I'd like to know what you are using. If you are using I recommend going to http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m....php/Main_Page and from there I would find specific instructions for your distro. It will probably be very helpful and might even tell you exactly what you need to know to get it working. I used their site a lot when I was getting my wireless working... good luck! =)
so yeah looks their website doesn't have too much to say about it except that the kernel it comes with doesn't work and you have to upgrade it ...so maybe thats your problem...have a looksee for yourself...
