wireless setup

I installed the linux-wlan-ng-0.2.1-pre16 driver and it compiled and installed ok. When i type in
Code:
tail /var/log/messages -f
and look at the log when i plug the device in it gets stuck on the point where it says
Code:
usb.agent[2993]:missing kernel or user mode driver prisn2_usb
i am using Slackware 9.1 and i know that it has the kernel source because i compiled alright.
I have had this working on my past Mandrake 9.2 system witht the same driver so i know that this driver works for my card. I have a DWL-122 on a Slackware 9.1 system with the 2.4.22 linux source.

Could you please help me?
Thanks
Pat.

This is a guess, but it looks as if usb.agent is trying to load the prism2_usb module and can't find it. You might want to check your lib/modules/kernelversion directory (and subdirectories) to see if it is there.

Just out of curiosity, did you run make install as root when you compiled linux-wlan-ng? If this worked on Mandrake, it should work on Slackware. They aren't that different, especially when it comes to the kernel.

yeah i compiled and installed them as root. I tried yesterday to change the version of the driver and that ended up working == it looks like, because i get the
Code:
linkstatus=CONNECTED
at the end of the log file. Now my problem is actually configuring the device.

After the driver is configured i type in these two lines
Code:
ifconfig wlan0 192.168.2.9 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add -net default gw 192.168.2.1
and then i try to open up a browser but the webpages still arent found When i type
Code:
ifconfig wlan0
I see that the device is confiugred with the proper adresses and all but i still cant get it to work..

Do you have any ideas on this?

Thanks

I don't think you need the -net flag with your route command. When I do it this way I just use route add default gateway 192.168.1.1. Of course my router has a different IP than yours.

The other thing you may need to do is edit your /etc/resolv.conf file to indclude the IP addresses of you ISP's DNS servers. For each server you need to add nameserver 1.2.3.4 only using the real IP addresses of the nameservers.
