I have realtek ethernet integrate in my laptop, and now I am trying to go wireless with orinoco pcmcia card. when I reboot my laptop the kernel complaint that "bringup interface eth1 fail"
how can I make the kernel to stop complaining.
I go online using the ethernet without of any problem, but the orinoco wireless card is the one that giving me problem.
Let the machine boot normally and then insert the wireless card live. There should be 2 tones. The first will be the laptop noticing the existence of the card, the second will be it loading or failing to load the modules (drivers) for the card. If the second tone sounds much like the first, then you're fine. If it sounds like a low-toned bonk... then er... well, from a command line type "dmesg" and at the end will be what the kernel failed to recognize. Post that back here and we can hack on it.
Actually, I'm almost certain its loaded the driver as the kernel wasn't complaining, it was fine, that [FAILED] comes from RedHat's init, a file called /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcg-eth1 that has some of the wrong info in it. Or, the info in that is right and you need to change the file /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts and manipulate the proper wireless information through that: essid, rate, key, and mode usually. Check through some of the other posts here if you get stuck and I haven't replied.
during installation of mandrake did it recognize the orinoco card? if so I believe when pcmcia starts on boot it will bring up network with whichever eth* it was assigned. The way my box boots is that network tries to start before pcmcia services, so network will not find the wireless card until pcmcia starts, that's why you get a network eth1 FAILED. So I just disable network at boot and load it manually if I need my hardwired card. This works fine for me.
