Wireless installation then no yum or email in fc5

I have just installed madwifi and kernel modules from Livna and eventually got an active connection to my wireless network.

But the problem is that now Yumex freezes and eventually reports no valid URL and thunderbird email client just times out. It all worked fine before through eth0 (but doesn't now through eth0). I have tried with both dhcp and static addresses. Each give me internet access, but no email or yum. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.

An additional question I have is how to get the redhat->system tools ->network tool to set the link speed and channel to the wireless card. This option is greyed out in my configuration but on the greyed out items it specifies the wrong channel (ch 1 whereas the actual channel is 6 and 36mb/s whereas the card is super g 108mbs capable.)

Thanks for any help
