Trying to connect to secured router.

Ok so I have my drivers installed for my wireless network adapter. Usually I have to run "modprobe ndiswrapper" and then "dhclient eth0" to connect to my router. This works on an unsecured router.

I edited my wpa_supplicant.conf for my SSID and PSK but it doesn't seem to connect.

Also while attempting to connect to my own router I pick up someone else's un-secured router, is there a way I can stop my laptop from connecting to un-wanted routers?

Maybe someone can show my an example of how wpa_supplicant.conf should look to make sure I have it right?

Not debian or knoppix related based on your sig but mentions defining the essid using the iwconfig as choice of network. http://ultramookie.com/wayback/2006/...4-and-wpa-psk/

Now as far as secure network is it wpa or wpa2?
Might post your wpa-supplicant.conf file to see what it looks like.

At this point I'm starting to think the router itself is the problem. My friend and I have the same router, The Linksys WRT54G. His is unsecured and 2 floors from where I normally access it. Mine is sitting about 5 feet away from me. I can connect to his router with no problems. Mine, even if I turn off security can't connect to it. Even in WinXP I have trouble staying connected. I pick up other routers from across the street, and even able to connect to the unsecured routers, with almost no signal strengh and use their Internet.
