I have a speedstream 1021 wireless pcmcia 11 Mbps card. I've scoured
the net and newsgroups for answers and I haven't been able to get
anywhere. I've followed the hardware vendor's instructions, but still
can't get the card to be recognized correctly. When I do a cardinfo I
receive the following:
The following is on the vendor's support knowledbase as to how to set
up the card:
Example only: Configuring for Linux Orinoco Driver
§ SpeedStream Product: 1021
§ OS: Linux 2.4.18
§ Driver: PCMCIA-3.1.33+. The latest version can be found at
sourceforge.net (see link in Further Information section).
In this example the [CONFIG_PCMCIA] is not enabled in the kernel;
instead the PCMCIA-3.1.33 suite is used.
1. Confirm that the Linux kernel was compiled with option
[CONFIG_NET_WIRELESS] enabled.
2. Confirm the Wireless Tools package is installed (this is included
in Redhat Linux 7.2+).
3. Append following to the [/etc/pcmcia/config] file:
4. Make sure you let the PCMCIA package use its own network scripts
during installation.
5. Include the following information in your
[/etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts] file:
*,*,*,00:30:F1:*)
INFO="SpeedStream WLAN"
ESSID="[provide your network name here]"
MODE="Managed"
KEY="[if you use encryption, provide your key here]"
Note: If you have your AP (e.g. Siemens 2623) set up as a DHCP server,
make sure you set [ DHCP="y"] in the [/etc/pcmcia/network.opts] file.
Otherwise, provide the required parameters in the
[/etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts] file.
It appears as though the card is not being detected correctly because
the card doesn't work when it's being detected as a acx 100. Please
help...
i don't have that card, but this would be the way i would try:
start yast2,select -> network devices,->network card,if anything is configured, select it and delete it. then select configure from the top pane, click wireless box, select wireless settings and fill in your info, don't select pcmcia, instead click select from list. choose lucent/orinoco/prism2, click 'ok', now you should have orinoco_cs in the module name box, click next and enter any other info it needs. sorry, i can't actually try this to make sure, good luck.
This almost certainly *is* an acx100 chipset, as the manfid #'s match exactly to my smc 2435w card which I'm using to post this, and which uses the acx100 chipset. Good news, there's a nice driver available here:
if it is an acx100, then it looks like suse got it right, could be config issues elsewhere. one thing you need to do if you're not rebooting right away is issue the command rcnetwork restart at a root prompt after you were done with yast2
Maker,
Although it's a work-in-progress, I'd hate to think you've got an acx100 card dead in the water and that it possibly could be slamming packets at a (theoretical) 22mbps for you. Here's a link to my not yet finished howto for this chipset and although I didn't get which distro you're using, there are pre-compiled modules(drivers) for your acx100 card for Mandrake 9.0, RedHat 9.0 and Slackware 9.0, follow the installation, testing and configuration sections for your distro, if it matches.
