starting wireless network

I use a linux-wlan-ng drivers with a D-Link 650 and i can't find anything about how to actually start a wireless network. I try 'ifconfig wlan0 up' and 'dhcpcd wlan0' but for some reason, i can't get anything up... how ar eyou supposed to start a wireless network... and how can i get it to automatically start when i boot or plug in the card.

I can't find any documentation about how to start the network in general and i am getting quite frustrated... thanks fo rhte help

This is an older version of the dwl650 (axe-head looking antenna housing)? If so, it should work out of the box, if not (has a rectangular antenna housing) then it's not going to work with those drivers.

If a "cardctl status" typed at a root console shows a 5v card, then you need to open and modify according to the commentary you find there /etc/pcmcia/network.opts and /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts as well as files with "network" in them located under /etc/rc.d. If instead it shows a 3.3v card, then those drivers will not work.
