Sometimes cannot connect to wireless network
Hi,
At the beginning of the summer I installed Ubuntu 5.10 on my Thinkpad T41, after using Suse 9 then openSuse on it for about a year. It is dual booting XP. I'm finding that there are some places on my campus where I can't connect to the wireless network in linux, but can in windows. I think it fails when trying to get an IP address, but I'm not sure. However in many places on campus I have no trouble connecting in linux (as well as at home). The relevant output from lspci is:
0000:02:02.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
I'm using the madwifi driver (I'm not sure what version it is but the folder it extracted to is madwifi-ng-r1639-20060613 so maybe one of those numbers is a version).
I know Breezy comes with madwifi in some package, but I think I ended up building it because I was losing packets or something.
Any ideas about why I'm sometimes able to connect in windows and not linux would be appreciated (I was thinking maybe b vs. g thing, or sensitivy/Tx-power being set wrong or something).
Thanks!
