Hi,

I have amd64 and a 32bit debian on it. I have installed Ndiswrapper and there was no problems as far as I can see.modprobe goes without any error not even in the syslog or dmesg. iwconfig write the wlan0 interface as it should but when I tried to change for eg. the channel to the 6th nothing changed in the iwconfig place. I get only one error message when I tried to change the nwid and it says:
"Error for wireless request "Set NWID" (8B02) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; No such device."
The iwlist wlan0 scan returns with no network result but I know there is a network.I know every parameter of it just cannot set to the interface.
Do you have any idea what could be wrong?

Theres actually native linux drivers for that card. (maybe if you could post the output of lspci for it, to make sure) might be worth giving them a go. They're available here. http://sourceforge.net/projects/rt2400/

Don't mess with ndiswrappers for this card. Follow instructions carefully. I couldn't get the beta versions to work, but the rt2500 cvs installed without a hint of problems.

My first try was the rt2500 from the serialmonkey.com but while it's working fine under my 64bit debian it freezes the 32bit system after a 3-5sec if I give the ifup ra0 command.

Exactly which driver are you trying to install on the 32-bit? ... beta 2500, cvs 2500, 2x00 ... ?

i have tried the beta 2500, cvs2500, 2x00, and cvs 2x00. All have the same result. But i have some information after the freez. It said BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0.

I just found this error so I'm on the google but nothing useable.

My solution has always been to keep trying different versions of the driver until one works. Sounds like you're doing that. Have you tried the rt2500-source package from Debian?

Googling that error message brings up this suggestion: iwlib 28pre10 (the latest) should fix this problem.

Didn't know there is a debian package but now I tried. No joy. Same error.
You mean libiw28_27+28pre13-1_i386.deb?
I cannot find package like iwlib just a .h file but I couldn't find out which package is it in.

That's the package I'd try installing. That's the one I have on my 32-bit system.

I have upgraded the libiw28 and got the same error. I will check what is different between my current working and my not working one from package to package and pray to have some resoults or maybe the solution.
Any other ideas are welcome.

I have tried to upgrade all of the packages what was installed on the system and the result... The system freezes before I could try to login. The next step is to restart the installation with the debootstrap thing and hope it will solve my problem.
