Problem w/ Redhat 8 and Orinoco Gold
I am currently having trouble getting my Orinoco Gold wireless network card to work with Redhat Linux 8.0 and I'm going to need some serious help.
I was previously unable to activate the wireless card but now I'm able to activate after editing /etc/pcmcia/config and changing the bind to orinoco_cs (at someone's suggestion). The card now says "Active" in the Network Device Control GUI, but there is no real activity and I cannot access the network. No link lights are lit up. Card works in Win2K partition w/ win driver.
If i run iwconfig the card is there and I can actually see the MAC of the access point. I have set up /etc/pcmcia/wirelss.opts to the best of my knowledge:
Lucent Wavelan IEEE (+ Orinoco, RoamAbout and ELSA)
*,*,*,00:60:1D:*|*,*,*,00:02:2D:*)
INFO="Wavelan IEEE example (Lucent default settings)"
ESSID="myssid"
MODE="Managed"
Channel="9"
RATE="11M"
KEY="s:secret [1] key s:secret [2] key s:secret [3] key s:secret [4] key [1]
**This is not actual ESSID or KEY values for obvious reasons**
I have a linksys BEFW11S4 Router/Switch/Access Point and used the html interface to create my WEP keys.
I also get the following error at start up:
"orinoco_cs
device does not seem to be present, deleting the initialization"
Once in Linux the Network Device Control interface says that the card is active and appearss to be bound to the static IP assigned. Also verified by iwconfig.
I am new to linux and even newer to the world of wireless on linux. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will be glad to provide further info as needed.
Thanks,
Todd
