problem config wireless card

Hello,

I have just upgraded my kernel from version 2.6.4.52 to 2.6.12.3

And now it is not possible to configure my wireless card.

when i try theses commands , I have these results:

iwconfig eth1
eth1 : no such device

ifconfig eth1
eth1:error fetching interface informationevice not found

Besides, when i check the errors messages with the command dmesg there is a recurent one:

snd_intel8x0:Unknown parameter 'joystick'

It does not seem linked but i am newbie on Linux so i am not able to find the good solution.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Could you please tell us what your wireless card is called? There may be problems with it and the kernel version - but can you tell us some more things. Did your card work before you updated the kernel? I'm guessing it did. Have you tried "iwconfig wlan0" or something to that effect? Have you checked to see if your card is mentioned in the HCL? Have you searched for your card and its compatibility on Linux on Google? Please help us help you!

Then just:
Quote:
This card is very well supported by Prism54, which was installed by default by my distro (SuSE 9.1).
However, it took me a long time to get it working---probably because I missed something in the HOWTO's I've been reading and my little hardware knowledge---I couldn't get it working. When listing the card with 'iwconfig' it kept on saying "NOT READY!".
Only after checking /var/log/messages I noticed the kernel message:
prism54: request_firmware() failed for 'isl3890'

I ended up on http://prism54.org/~mcgrof/firmware/ where I downloaded 1.0.4.3.arm, copied it to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware and renamed it to isl3890. Since then the card works smoothly.

========================

Ensure you download the firmware from http://www.prism54.org and follow the very simple instructions. If the folder doesn't exist just create it.
Have you tried doing that? Oh, talking about kernel messages, unplug your wireless card a second. Good. Now, open up terminal, and type in "tail -f /var/log/messages", and when that starts plug in your wifi card. Please tell me what you see.

Quote:
tail -f /var/log/messages
and nothing happened? Odd....what distro are you using?

Yes you do, but did you try what I quoted from the HCL in my second post? You never mentioned what happened when you tried that (if you have tried it).
