Ive got an orinoco classic gold wireless card, and it was compiled with modules from kernel 2.6.8.1. That means it is version .13e. I am attempting to patch the drivers to allow me to put the card into monitor mode, but its not working. The patch I have downloaded is orinoco-0.13e-dragorn-patch.diff, which is available from http://airsnort.shmoo.com/orinocoinfo.html . I was wondering where exactly I have to run this patch, and what command I have to use in order to get monitor mode working. I have tried following the tutorial, but it doesnt seem to be working.

I normally don't respond to step-by-step requests, especially when the documentation seems clear but I'm in a good mood today.

1. Get the orinoco_cs source code at http://ozlabs.org/people/dgibson/dldwd/
2. Unzip it. tar zxvf orinoco-0.13e.tar.gz
3. Change to the directory you just created. cd orinoco-0.13e
4. Review the instructions. less README.orinoco
5. Copy the patch to the current directory. cp /pathtothepatchfile/orinoco-0.13e-dragorn-patch.diff .
6. Apply the patch. patch -p1 < orinoco-0.13e-dragorn-patch.diff
7. Compile and install the patch. make && make install
8. Restart PCMCIA services. /etc/init.d/pcmcia restart or /etc/rc.d.rc.pcmcia restart depending on your distro
9. Run Kismet and smile.

Alternatively, just grab 0.15RC2 of the orinoco_cs driver. No patching needed. Same instructions except omit 5 & 6.
