I'm having a frustrating problem now that I installed Slack 10. Prior to that I was using 9.1 and had no problems but now I cannot make my wireless cards work. The first one is a Microsoft MN-520 that used to work with the orinoco_cs driver and an entry into the wireless.conf file. Now that I installed Slack 10 I cannot get that card recognized at all but the two lights are on. In 9.1, before I got it working, the lights were off or just one was on.
The other card is a Netgear WG511T that I had working great with 9.1 but now I can't even get the madwifi drivers to install! I'm considering switching back to 9.1 but hopefully someone here can help me get something happening with 10. Will ndiswrapper work for the Netgear card?
Anything anyone can tell me is appreciated. I'm so frustrated with this situation right now. It's ridiculous that wireless is so difficult to work with in Linux sometimes.
I'm posting this from a Slack 10 laptop using ndiswrapper, albeit a different card. I also use the orinoco_cs driver with several other cards on Slack 10 - kernel 2.4.28 and 2.6.1.
Let's do the easy one first. What happens if you modprobe orinoco_cs with the MN-520?
What version of ndiswrapper are you using and whatr are the install errors?
Thanks for your reply.
If I modprobe the orinoco_cs I still have no eth0. No matter what I do, eth0 is listed as not a device, or whatever. It's like the card isn't even inserted. I haven't used ndiswrapper yet. I'm just wondering it it's any more effective. Using Slack 9.1 I had NO problems. Now it's like I'm dealing with an impossible situation.
Well, I fixed both problems. I reinstalled Slack 10 and added the proper entry into /etc/pcmcia/config file for my MN-520. I'm having problems using WEP but I'll sort that out later.
Then I got the latest version of madwifi and tried that. This time it installed without any errors. I guess my other version of madwifi had a problem..?
Anyway, they're both working fine now, minus the WEP.
