Trying to find a workable solution for RHEL3 using a Netgear wg311 v3.
pci id is 11ab:1faa:1385:6b00 which is a Marvell 88ww8335 chip(Libertas variant).
Netgear and Marvell supply only Win drivers, despite Marvell's assertions in their spec. sheet that linux drivers are available.
I'm running a 2.4.21 kernel. Have tried ndiswrapper, but it wants a 2.6 kernel.
OK, partial progress, got the Marvell driver installed and recognized by the ndiswrapper utilities. The Netgear driver was not usable.
Still can't get the ndiswrapper driver to compile though.
Bit the bullet, updated the kernel to a 2.6 variant that ndiswrapper will be happier with.
CentOS4, as advertized, is just like RHEL, and the price difference would cover the RHCE.
ICAC, it works using the marvell drivers and ndiswrappers, CentOS4, should be the same for RHEL4.
Currently iwconfig does not manage sensitivity nor bitrate, but I'm using an old version of wireless extensions(pre16) need pre18. Will download and report back.
Well she's back now, not entirely sure why. Basically refused to change essid, though it gave no complaint when I entered the command.
Seems to default to 802.11FH until essid is set. I did recompile the drivers, but it had no effect at the time.
Several times, it has locked the system while updating an iwconfig command. Just hangs the display and blinks the caps lock and scroll lock lights on the keyboard.
OK, all the link issues were wireless interference, data rates and all-day reliability on channel 11 instead of 6 YMMV.
Not entirely thrilled about the system lockup if I don't get the iwconfig sequence right.
With a clean link, a workable and reliable critter now. Running with 128 bit WEP to a Linksys router.
CentOS4, ndiswrapper, marvell mrv8335(aka mb55) drivers: http://marvell.com/drivers/driverDis...?dId=123&pId=4
