Probably. Ironically all of the MS branded kit is just re-branded generic chipsets. Most likely its an Atmel chipset, but to find out for certain, take the model number to here:

http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz

Find the chipset, post back, and I can give you a link to the driver page. Most likely its an atmel or a prism2.

Cheers,

Lightbulb Yes it is a Prism2/2 5/3

The model is a Microsoft MN-510 USB. According to the site is a Prism 2/2 5/3. So, please if you can let me know how to install this thing. I have Fedora Core 1. Now, I have this SMC usb wireless card model: 2662W and according to the site is has a Atmel radio chip. Is this compatible?

Thanks

http://prism2.unixguru.raleigh.nc.us/v21-fc1-index.html

That'll get you RPMs for the default kernel, if you have a home-rolled or something analogous, you're going to have to compile from the source found at www.linux-wlan.net

Question

So, finegan which one should I choose. USB Prism2 Cards. It is the i386? As you can see I'm kind of new to wireless and Linux. I have not heard of the Athlon RPM. Does this means that if you have an Athlon processor you are to download this rpm??

Thanks for your time!

It depends on which kernel you are running, Fedora made a different kernel optimized for a per architecture basis, but its kind of hard to tell which one you've got, from looking at the one FC1 box I've got access to (also athlon), it looks like the default kernel is a 2.6.6 compiled i386. Try 'em all, its won't let you load the wrong one...

This is a pretty uncommon device, so it wasn't even listed in the linux-wlan list.

What's the output of /sbin/lsusb?

Is there?

No... blame Broadcom. Zero support to Linux coders to develop drivers.

There are wrappers for the windows driver which work:

http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net

and

www.linuxant.com

I also have a Microsoft USB Wireless adaptor. But it isn't on that list on linux-wlan. Its a MN 710, so should I just get the same drivers as the MN 720 and 730? Which are both broadcom. I have had no internet on my linux boot for months because of this lack of driver problem.

This is a longshot, but try:

/sbin/lsusb

And we can google around for the chipset off of the usb ID.

Cheers,
