Most basic wireless network

hey,

wanted to ask if it is possible to make a simple wireless connection by getting 2 usb wireless adapters, one for each pc.

i've never used wireless, so i have no idea if this is enough, or if i'll need a wireless router as well.

yeah sure it's possible, i wouldn't rely on usb though, yuck. get a pci card for a standard desktop machine / server.

thanx, but why not usb?
i mean i see so many of these small plag-n-play adapters in shops and they arent too expensive.

if the pci cards are cheaper, yep, i'll get those

well just another thing to take into the equation, loading all the right usb modules to get at the device itself.. it'll probably work fine, don't get me wrong, i just wouldn't like to. and that's not even speaking from experience either...

It also wouldn't hurt to check out the LQ HCL to see what success others have had with USB adapters. Good luck with it.

by definition of your situation being reduced to a compliant 802.11a/b/g network, there can not be os interaction issues. if there are, one of them isn't compliying to IEEE standards.
