madwifi driver

hey guys,
i just loaded up the madwifi drivers for an orinoco a/b/g combo card, and i didn't get any errors during 'make' or 'make install'. when i type iwconfig, it picks up the card, but it can't seem to find any APs. they are being discovered by other equipment. when i put in the orinoco b card, it picks them up right away. is there something i need to do to activate the madwifi drivers? the lights on the card are flashing, but it doesn't seem to be transmitting or receiving. any help would be appreciated.
