installing madwifi from usb - Damn SL

Hi,Very new to linux (Damn Small Linux) but have done lots of reading and a little experimenting with different distros. Today I have managed to intall DSL (which I believe is debian based and probably not the best distro to cut my teeth on) to hard drive which was an accomplishment I suppose. Computer is thinkpad 500mhz 128mb ram 12 gig hd. I am trying to get D-Link G630 working. Downloaded madwifi to usb the usb/sda1 is mounted and I can see the file but don't know how to install. I have the original windows disk for the wireless card but having trouble understanding ndiswrapper and how to use. I thought I knew something about computers but obviously I know very little but want to keep on pluggin at this stuff. Help

In response to the end of your post - you can know a lot about computers, but if you have never used linux before it can be a very daunting task. Don't get frustrated or discouraged though, most of us here are here to help however we can.

If you just downloaded the install file, you can just do all of these and hopefully it will work, although Im not sure because DSL still uses a 2.4 series kernel and I believe that madwifi requires 2.6.

These are the commands:

cd /mnt/[pendrive path]/
tar -xvf [madwifi .tar.gz file - if it isnt a .tar.gz, let me know and I will give you the right parameters]
cd [new folder created because of last command - same name as .tar.gz, no extension]
./configure (this will take a few minutes)
make
su root
make install

not too difficult, but a bit different than windows, huh? Again if it doesn't work - let me know and I will see what i can do.
