Hidden WEP Network with more options.

I've done some searches, but it turns out I'm not really sure what to search for. I'm using Linux in a Windows corporate world. We have a wireless network, but it seems to be a non-standard configuration that I cannot connect to using KNetworkManager. Here are the details I know:

SSID: <it is hidden, but I know the name>
Network Authentication: Open
Data Encryption: WEP
Key is provided automatically
802.1x authentication enabled
EAP Type: PEAP
Authentication Method: MS-CHAP v2

I've tried using WPA-Enterprise, since it allows me to select some of the other options, but it is a WEP network, so it obviously doesn't work. Any ideas on how to get this to work from Linux at all, not limiting myself to KNetworkManager, necessarily?

I think you you need hardware that specifically supports peap. I believe some cisco aironet and intel centrino cards support it. wpa_supplicant might be able to get you connected. I can't remember, but I don't think wep and peap can be set at the same time.

If you have compatible hardware, try searching google for peap, wpa_supplicant and linux for sample configuration files.

Thanks for the info. This looks like what I'm going to need to do. I'll have to do a little looking to figure out exactly how to use it. My assumption is that I cannot use this and KNetworkManager at the same time, correct?

I'll post back if I get it working. Thanks for the tip.

Are you sure that wep is used? It isn't secure at all. In any case look in the README and example files for the wpa_supplicant package. It has examples for using various options including EAP and wep.

Here is one configuration you might see in a corporate environment:
Code:
# WPA2-EAP/CCMP using EAP-TLS

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant

network={
        ssid="example wpa2-eap network"
        key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
        proto=WPA2
        pairwise=CCMP
        group=CCMP
        eap=TLS
        ca_cert="/etc/cert/ca.pem"
        private_key="/etc/cert/user.p12"
        private_key_passwd="PKCS#12 passhrase"
}
