Hello smokey.
I had the same problem. First, i choose a SMC2802W, and since it was Version 2, i could not put it working, unless using ndiswrapper drivers. but, kismet and other similar tools didn't work.
my next card will be a d-link DWL-g520, because of the chipset. it's atheros, and it will work in linux very well.
So, from the 2 cards, and for what i've read, if i were you, i would choose the Orinoco 802.11a/b/g 802.11g a/b/g Wireless PCMCIA Card (2nd link) because orinoco chipsets (and atheros and several other) are supported by linux and kismet or similar tools will work.
Cheers,
Bruno Santos
