Getting Linux to recognize and use Broadcom wireless interface.
Hello.
First time here. I have worked on SysV UNIX and Solaris before. I am just checking out Linux now.
To start with I am trying Knoppix and Mandrake Move (boot from CDs) on an emachines laptop. Everything looks good except for the fact that the "autodiscover" doesn't find my wireless network adapter. It does find my 10-Base-T port. Both are Broadcom.
The wireless port is:
Broadcom
IEEE 802.11g Network Adapter
PCI bus 0, device 12, function 0
Driver Provider: Broadcom
Driver Date: 3/19/2003
Driver Version 3.10.53.0
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\BCMWL5.SYS
Service Name: BCM43XX
-and, of course, works fine in Windows.
I've checked out the Broadcom site but their driver area is confusing. They seem to have a few on their site but otherwise they send you to other websites that aren't clearly marked as to downloading drivers for broadcom interfaces???
Since this happens in Knoppix (Debian) and Mandrake I'm guessing that this is not a proprietary issue with the kernel or the CD Boot method. It must be more of a generic Linux thing.
Can someone give me a hand?
