You shouldn't rename it. Standard ethernet cards are prefixed with eth and should not be used for wireless.

Perhaps you could tell us what you want to acheive.

Moved to wireless

Its not a "standard ethernet card", its a is a "wireless card", im using mandrake 9.2 and i have a cisco aironet 350 wireless 802.11b card. I am trying to make it show up as "wlan0" instead of "eth0", so that it can work with wlan. Is there a way to accomplish this?

if you're wanting to run the wlan scripts "/etc/wlan/wlan.conf" or the
iwconfig/iwpriv commands, you just refer to your card as eth0, and
rename it eth0 in the scripts. don't try and change it's ifconfig designation.
my orinoco card shows up as eth1.

calling it one thing or another is not going to trick a program into
using hardware that it can't use... however, the wireless tools
work with prism2, rtl8180, and orinoco cards, and might work
with cisco cards as well.
