Difficulty in wireless internet connectivity

Dear All

Need Help. I am on RHEL 6 and trying to connect to a mobile hotspot of my 3G phone. Although the wireless says it is connected but no internet access for me so far.

Other devices like my IPAD or a Mac can use this same connection without any difficulty.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot this ?

Many Thanks
Subhashis

Any relevant lines in /var/log/messages?

As smallpond said, the system logs should be a good place to start. But since you know the hotspot is working (since you can connect via iPad and/or Mac), that leaves us missing a good number of details.

Things like what hardware you're using, wifi adapter, how you're configuring that connection (command line? wickd? Networkmanager?), what GUI desktop you're using, etc. And one other important thing...RHEL is NOT designed for desktops...why are you using it? And RHEL6 is old...the latest is 7.x, so if this is a new installation, stop where you are and load the latest version of RHEL, but only if you are going to pay for it. Unless you have a real, genuine need for RHEL, it's fairly pointless to load it. You can load the latest version of Fedora, and stay within the RHEL 'ecosystem', and things like wifi/bluetooth/etc., and other 'consumer' devices will probably work much easier.

and it is the current rhel6.8 ?

you there for have a paid for support contract !

-- use it --

login to the redhat site with the credentials you set up when you bought the required license

and search there knowledge base

-- you WILL NEED to be a registered user to use the search vor most things

Thanks all for your suggestions and help. This was installed for a specific project in my organization through an enterprise license. After I was trying all sorts of things in making entries in resolve.conf and the likes over the weekend (none of which worked), this morning some updates were pushed to the system which apparently resolved the problem. I can now connect wirelessly to the mobile hotspot.
To TBOne's comment and advice, indeed this is going to be upgraded to 7.x by the project team moving forward.

from the rhn repos you will need the drivers
these as i recall are not part of the default install

the knowledge base search should have the solution
