Angry D-Link DWL-650 and RedHat 8.0 (help!)

I purchased a D-Link DWL-650 recently and am trying to get the wireless networking up and running. I have read several conflicting accounts of how to get this card up and running (I am envisioning it is a prism chipset, but I don't know for sure).

Firstly, I am not sure whether I need to recompile the Kernel or not, and reports about needing to use pcmcia-cs and linux-wlan-ng are not very consistent. Secondly, it is not clear to me what the path of least pain is on this one (or if there is such a thing). Can someone give me some guidance on this?

# /sbin/cardctl ident
"DWL-650 Wireless PC Card RevP", "ISL37101P-10", "A3"
manfid: 0x000b, 0x7110
function: 6

and I am running RedHat 8.0 Kernel 2.4.18-14

P.S. - Sorry to linuxquestions.org users... I had posted this in networking by accident the first time. Ooops.

Hello agerkis,

I am myself a very much Linux newbie, but I've been reading posts now for two weeks trying to get my wireless up and running (I'm close, reallly close now )

But anyways, to your problem.

from the d-link support pages:
http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=357
(I found this by going to suport, entering in the card type, click on installation, drivers and then "Linux / Macintosh Support")
they link to the following for drivers:
ftp://ftp.linux-wlan.org/pub/linux-wlan-ng/

Some things you want to check before you try and compile your drivers is to make sure you have your kernel source code installed...on my Mandrake 9.2 I didn't so I had to get that first.

I'd suggest installing pcmcia-cs and the linux-wlan-ng is the drivers for you.
