D-Link Air DWL-650 Problem on Gentoo

The Card says it's a D-Link Air DWL-650
But lspci says it's a:
0000:02:00.0 Network controller: Linksys ADMtek ADM8211 802.11b Wireless Interface (rev 11)

I currently have 4 modules inserted into my kernel.
Module Size Used by
orinoco_cs 6920 0
adm8211 53888 0
orinoco 39180 1 orinoco_cs
hermes 7552 2 orinoco_cs,orinoco

however running iwconfig tells me that no interfaces have wireless extentions.

The adm8211 driver I found on: aluminum dot sourmilk dot net/adm8211/

the most luck I've gotten is with a module that I don't remember anymore where I got.. it starts to attempt to connect.. but I can never get it to work.
the driver's README says www dot admtek dot com dot tw/download/ADM8211.htm but it appears to not work anymore.

I've tried a patch for gentoo's net.ethx scripts and kwifimanager.

mode is set to ad-hoc
it says it does NOT support scanning.
the ID is correct, the WEP is correct the channel is correct..

is there something else that I could be missing? or has anyone done this with this card on gentoo?

ps: sorry for all the www dot something dot com things.. this is my first post and they won't let me post links

Go figure. after MONTHS of battling this only 1hour after I ask for help.. i figure it out!

I had managed before instead of ad-hoc .. BUT it was this variable that was making it not work.
scan_mode_eth1="managed"

also note that the ethernet cannot be on if you intend to use wireless.
