Looks like i'm at a lost coz. looking at the other threads no one has actually pined down a fool proof way of doing this like some of the other's suse picked it up i even set up the vci number and still no connection. I feel a little unhappy with the lack of help from suse of redhat as i have mailed them both numorous times with no reply which is the anoying part. O well hopefully there is a expert out there who can lay the whole thing down step by step. In laymans terms.

The drivers that I'm using came from a file call Tigris_K2.4.3_Driver.zip which you'll want to have a google for. If you can't find it I can mail it to you, although its 2.5MB. This file contains a number of other archives including CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.3-6.1.2.007.tar.gz which is the source for the kernel module.

Before the module is of any use to you though you'll need a kernel that supports ATM and PPPoA - do you have this yet? Are you confident about rebuliding your kernel? You'll also need to find a version of pppd with the necessary ATM support. I'm not sure exactly where I found the version I'm using so will need to have a hunt around a bit. I ended up getting a binary package from somewhere as building from source became a problem.

Which version of slackware are you using? I'll check out the version of PPPd that comes with it, as it may already be OK. Unfortunately I'm away from home on training so won't be able to have a proper look quickly.

If it's of any consolation - I found getting the info far more difficult than actually getting things working!

cheers

Uhm... just noticed that I might be getting confused and you may be using Redhat not Slackware - that same package includes kernel RPMs...

Thanx mate, I'm using both Suse and Red hat as i have 2 80 gig Hd's in there when i get either of these to work i will wipe the other drive and remove the modem out of my winxpPC and into the linux Box. If u like i can always open a port on my firewall. And allow incoming connections on my linux p.c. if people would like to hunt arround. Of course what i'll do is ask u to mail me at cat1@aber.ac.uk and then i'll create a user account on my winxp so u can VPN/SSH/Eak i don't believ i'm going to say this TELNET in. But thank u all for replying i'm sure together we may be able to figure this one out and the slap the tech team at suse & red hat with a trout.

RedHat Conexant ADSL PCI Modem

Hi,

Anyone who's interested, I have a PCI Conexant ADSL Modem HOW-TO for RedHat. I found a lot of info. on Suse and Mandrake but it was a bit of a struggle to get RedHat to work ok.

The HOW-TO is at: http://www.purplepixie.org/dave/archive/adsl-howto/

If you have any specific queries or find problems with this document (I did it very quickly) please feel free to email dcutting [the_magic_at_sign] purplepixie.org.

Cheers,

Dave.

I've also found http://patrick.spacesurfer.com/linux..._pci_adsl.html which offers later kernel support. There is a link to a RedHat specific site as well at http://www.data-technics.net/content.php?cat=5 which seems to be the actual site of the new people who make the drivers.

At some point I'll have a tinker and try to get my routers more up-to-date. It'll be nice to be able to run a supported distribution!

Talking

I finally got Mandrake 10.0 Official (kernel 2.6-7mdk) working with a Conexant Accessrunner ADSL PCI card. Took ages, got some errors, but I did take loads of notes on various bits of paper. Will test it over the week and sort out a foolproof set of instructions.

Hope this lends some hope to some people, nearly drove me mad!

Wow just come back to this thread! Seems such a long time ago! Anyways if anyone is still experiencing problems! First off upgrade to latest 2.6 kernel! Then if you can't find your network adapter driver install NDISWRAPPER and use that! It was designed for wifi but seems to work ok with a number of technologies!
P.S. Given up with RED HAT and SUSE now i'm GENTOO(XGL) and never looked back
