cant get wireless with RedHat 9

Hello.
I'm totally new at linux, i'm using windows so i want to try something new. So I would be greatfull for all help i can get.
I've just installed Red Hat 9 on my Toshiba Satelitte Pro 4270 laptop.

I have a 3com 3CRWE737 96B -E1 wireless card and the OS finds it as a Lucent Orinoco and prism II- based PCMCIA wireless. So far so god. When i go in on settings/network (using grafikinterface) and trying to set this wireless controll to active i get this message.

Cant activate networkcontroll eth0!

Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06)
SET failed on device eth0: Invalid argument.
Error for wireless request "Set Frequencey" (8B04)
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A)
Invalid argument "s:".

Decide IP-information for eth0.....failed

I have sett my SSID to AUTO and even tried to sett it to the real SSID name.

I have changed the channel to 11 as it is set on my router. I live in europe and its normal (as i understand) to have it on 11. It works with my other network and this card on windows as OS.

When im totally new at Linux i want to use the grafikinterface but im also want to learn more. So if you try to help me, have it in your memory that im a windows user as long as it works. But im willing to learn more but maybe need very exakt instruktions.

Tanks so far!

launch a shell and try:

ifconfig -a

find out the name of your card (eth0, eth1, wlan0 etc) then type:

ifconfig name of your card here up (e.g. ifconfig eth0 up)

then...

pump eth0

your wireless card is unlikely to be called eth0 as your ethernet card normally takes eth0.
