best wirless router that works on all of win xp. mac osx and fedora linux

Hi,

I got my broadband (the down a regular phone line kind, not cable) modem and soon will have it installed. I want to put a wireless router on it, but it has to work with my ibook and a desktop with winxp/fedora linux on it. Can I only use apple airport with my ibook? or once i put in a router the ibook can connect with out any trouble? Any recomendations as to what I can get that will work with all 3 os's?

Cheers,

Mark

As long as you have properly installed and configured wireless devices in the clients, the access point/router brand is irrelevant.

ok, so I can use any router I want. Next problem is my modem is usb and not ethernet, but a quick search on amazon reveals the cheaper decent (where decent = good reviews) routers only work with ethernet (the linksys ones). What therefore are the decent usb ones to go for (unless a usb to ethernet converter exists?)

Thanks,

Mark

Get an Ethernet modem. You'll save yourself a lot of grief.

Before I do that does anyone know if bt broadband (actually I get it through onetel down a bt line) puts any nasty signals in the phone line to stop certain modem brands working ( I assume since they supply certain brands for free they have some sort of deal with these companies and dont want you using something else)?

If you got an ethernet port,
You can get an ethernet ADSL modem/Router/Gateway
Then you don't need a modem.

I got a linksys. very good, plug it in and go.
From dabs at the moment you can get one
with a bundled PC card wireless.
(Only 11b though) for about 50 quid.

So it's a good price as just a plain gateway without the wiireless.
I just plugged it in and it went.
