Which Proxim? The A/G ones use Atheros. The old ones use Prism.

There are several versions of Prism chipsets. In the old, B world, 2, 2.5 & 3. Avoid 2. SMC 2532B-W is a nice v2.5 card with high tx power. The latest Prism cards use the prism54 driver.

The Kismet docs cover this all in detail: http://www.kismetwireless.net/documentation.shtml
