Belkin F5D7000 on Fedora 7

Help. I'm a bit of a noob, and I'm trying to install Ndiswrapper / Wireless on Fedora 7. Can anyone please assist me with the following problem
1) Driver installation - dosen't appear to be correct
2) Ndiswrapper, in general

Thanks

[root@localhost ~]# cd /etc/ndiswrapper
[root@localhost ndiswrapper]# dir
net8185.cat net8185.inf rtl8185.sys
[root@localhost ndiswrapper]# ndiswrapper -i net8185.inf
installing net8185 ...
[root@localhost ndiswrapper]# ndiswrapper -l
net8185 : driver installed
net8185.cat : invalid driver!
net8185.inf : invalid driver!
rtl8185.sys : invalid driver!
[root@localhost ndiswrapper]# modprobe ndiswrapper
[root@localhost ndiswrapper]# dmesg | grep wlan0
[root@localhost ndiswrapper]#
[root@localhost ndiswrapper]#
[root@localhost ndiswrapper]#

I need to add that I'm using v7 of this card. It uses Realtek 8185 drivers

[heman@localhost ~]$ su -
Password:
[root@localhost ~]# ndiswrapper -l
net8185 : driver installed
[root@localhost ~]# modprobe ndiswrapper
[root@localhost ~]# dmesg | grep wlan0
[root@localhost ~]#

Ok, here's what I've tried since, and now I'm in deeper hot water than before. Note in the previous post, I was not able to get Fedora to display hardware present, as per regular ndiswrapper installation.

I tried this
ndiswrapper -a 1799:700f net8185
- this made the hardware present
- restarted the computr
- computer not able to determine IP address during boot
- no wired RJ45 access
- went into terminal, did the following:
- su -
- modprobe ndiswrapper
- lwconfig
- at this point, I can see wlan0, with a wireless G card
- computer freezes

Help??

Here is a suggestion I received from Mike in Mepislovers Forum:
Incorrect driver
The driver you have is not the correct driver for your card. I am still not absolutely sure of the identity of your card -- probably lspci -nn
is the command that would tell us without any doubt ... lspci -nn should show 1799:700f as the identification of your card ...

I think it is a Realtek 8185 , and I would try this:

Get a driver from here
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...wnloads=tr ue

Download the windows xp version of net8185.inf (and corresponding .sys etc. --- probably 3 files net8185.inf net8185.sys net8185.cat )

Extract the files into a directory of your choice.

install the driver (after navigating to that directory)

ndiswrapper -i net8185.inf

update the driver with the PCI ID

ndiswrapper -a 1799:700f net8185

then
ndiswrapper -l
should show that it exists.

net8185 : driver installed
device (1799:700F) present

if it doesn't work right away you may need to reboot or
rmmod ndiswrapper
modprobe ndiswrapper

then you can configure your card with Mepis Network Assistant mnetwork
http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.p...etwork_Manager

I am not sure this will work even if I have the correct identity of your card, as this driver could require a newer version of ndiswrapper -- if things don't work you could try compiling the linux driver on that page also ...

These commands could also help:
ndiswrapper -m (as root).

and/or

add the line
alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
to /etc/modprobe.conf

as root

Mike
I also have this card and have managed to get it working in Mepis 6.5. HTH

Solution:
Compile a 16kstack kernel or download from

http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader...ernel-i686.php

Use linuxant kernel patch file to modify kernel-devel file, like in autoconf.h (#define CONFIG_4KSTACK=1 --> #define CONFIG_16KSTACK=1 )...etc.
Recompile ur modules-init-tools and ndiswrapper with 16kstack kernel, and the driver will never crash again!
I've spend some days to figured out what happen, and finally I got my rtl8185 ndiswrapper driver work on FC7, and post now!

FC7 force kernel to use 4kstack that might cause some cross platform error?
