Atmel USB Device on FC2 freeze up

I've been struggling with this for some time now:

I have installed the atmel wlan driver. I have patched it.

When I plug the device in, the computer freezes because the module for the usb device is loaded and apparently it doesn't get along with my usb controllers, ehci-hcd and ohci-hcd.

The readme says there are problems with some usb controllers and that you should edit /etc/modprobe.conf to remove the lines referring to the uncooperative modules to use the uhci module.

However, when I do that and reboot, uhci does not see any devices at all as there is no output from lsusb.

I want to know what usb controller will work with the wlan driver or anything else I can do to get it working.

Please, please help, I hate relying on Windows.

Anybody? The readme only details about problems with usb-uhci. It even says that for Fedora Core 2, the kernel is preconfigured to just how you need it.

In /etc/modprobe.conf, there are 2 lines like this:

alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 ohci-hcd

I will get a freeze up after I plug in the device and then go to the network configuration tool and enter the root password.

Can't anyone help me?
