802.11b brick 50yard

I am tring to boost my wifi signal to go about 60+ yards. To a finds house. The Prob' (i think) is We live in an apartment complex that is mostly brick. I am using a desktop with windows xp sharing internet using linksys wireless pic card (wp11 i think) . The test computer is a dual booting winxp and mandrake 9.1 thinkpad a22m with a d-link DWL-650+. Basicly the signal will have to make it around one row of brick apartments. Each row is about 60 feet with brick walls on.

if anyone can't help thanks.

Your problem won't be so much to make the WAP's signal extend as far as you want. There are boosters available at the usual outlets.

The problem is that even if your notebook "sees" the signal, its signal has to make it back the same way without the booster. Unless it's a stationary PC, then it can get a booster as well...

Do you have line of sight? Even if you need to stick your head out of the window? Then you can fiddle with innovative antenna arrangements.

If you boost unidirectionally, you expose yourself to a good amount of electromagnetic smog. Be careful.
