Hi there
Can anyone please help me find working 64 bit drivers for Broadcom chipset 4310 (version 2)? I have tried the drivers from the linuxant.com web site and they have not worked. I have tried numerous other drivers and none of them have worked. The 32 bit drivers from the OS discs (Win XP 32) result in driver and hardware being duly recognized but eventually fails since my computer is running Suse10.0 (64 bit edition).
The 32 bit drivers do not work on the 64 bit installation. I have tried innumerable web sites for a working driver for my chipset with no luck at all. I have a HP Pavilion Notebook dv 5000 with AMD
Turion Processor, ML-40 and I am running Suse 10.0, 64 bit edition.
Thanks to anybody who can help me with this.
Cheers

Have you checked the ndiswrapper wiki for a link? Other than that, the only other place I can think of to get a driver for that card would be from the Broadcom site.
By the way, I'm assuming that you are looking for a Windows driver.
Hi there
Thanks a lot for your response. I succeeded in getting my Broadcome wireless up and running. Following your suggestion I scoured the wiki page one more time and found a suggestion from someone that I should use the 64 bit driver for the 4318 64 bit chipset and then make a soft link for my 4319 chipset. It is working great so far.
However, after getting it up and running I tried to upgrade my kernel from 2.6.13-15 version to 2.6.13-15.8. The kernel did not load the ndiswrapper module on rebooting. I repeated the whole process of installing ndiswrapper and so on but then the mouse started freezing up with the new kernel. I then downgraded to the old kernel to get the wifi up and running.
How can I upgrade my kernel without losing wi-fi? Is there a foolproof way of doing this? What are the consequences of not updating the kernel periodically?
Thanks a lot for any help in this regard as well.
Regards

Whenever you upgrade a kernel, you will need to recompile ndiswrapper against that new kernel since ndiswrapper is a kernel module. Usually it works just fine provided that the kernel configuration hasn't changed much. It looks as if you are using stock Suse kernels, and unfortunately I don't know how ndiswrapper friendly they are. However, my feeling has always been that unless there is a security problem or you need some new function that an old kernel doesn't have, upgrading the kernel isn't really necessary.
If you really want to upgrade, about the best suggestion I can make would be to learn how to compile your own kernel. With wireless, that will frequently give better results than using stock kernels.
