Question Will hardware incompatible OS be able to be installed on VM?

Hi

I’m new to linux and to VM.
I’m running Linux Mint and installed Virtualbox.

What I’d like to know, if I install Windows 10 on a Virtual Machine and it works 100% with no issues, would it mean it would be able to work 100% on the actual pc machine that the VM is installed on with no driver or hardware issues?
Previously the first time I installed Windows 10 on my old dell, there were big driver and hardware issues.
Many years later, I have an updated version of windows 10 and wondering if it would work on my dell … but thought maybe I could test it first in VM.

But maybe the VM is separate from the hardware and what works in VM might not work in real situation on the same machine … what you think?

TIA

You can't assume that. The VM is running on virtual devices, not the real devices that the installed OS would need to support.

Ps … might you know whether it’s possible to install windows 10 after and along side Linux (Mint) … would Windows 10 created a duel boot for Windows + Linux?
Or must is be Windows first , then Linux distro second to get a dual booted Windows/Linux system?

FWIW: In the past ms-windows always had to be the first OS on the hard drive if you wanted a dual boot configuration. I don't know if that is still the case.
Windows-Xp will NOT, under any circumstances, install on this "newer" (not so new now) hardware, but it runs perfectly in VirtualBox on my Slackware64-current desktop. Windows-7 is a royal PITA to install on this hardware, but it runs very well in VirtualBox. There are no plans to buy a copy of windows 10.

I haven't run dual boot since I got a VM-capable laptop. You always need the one that's not running.

The minimum requirements are 1 GHZ processor, 2GB memory and 16GB hard drive space. There might be some network cards not supported anymore. How old is your hardware?

Yeah problem is it’s my hardware that’s ancient … not keen on doing Windows, only reason is I saw one can wifi “share” your laptop screen to a “smart” tv/monitor … this wanted to try it … but thought if I could install it along side Linux, in case it gives hassles on install, then at least I still got my linux!
The Nvidia drivers don’t work for my hybrid dell and nor seems the nouveau, so thus last attempt would be the Win 10 sharing to try get to use my external monitor. It’s been a tiring nightmare of failure trying to do something that simple.

Computing on a very restricted budget is often no fun haha … but got to try.

It’s from round 2011, bout a decade … I remember trying “upgrading” just when Win 10 came out, but my dell always seemed to have issues … I have googled and many with same pc complain about the same compatibility issues with Win 10.

I understand now... The one big problem is that Dell does not support Windows 10 on your PC and they do not provide any drivers.
