QXL Freezing Windows 10 Guest with QEMu-KVM
I just installed CentOS 8 on a new server I am setting up for virtualization purposes. I have had a Windows 10 Pro virtual installation under QEMU/KVM with Fedora 29, and had two QXL displays set up with no issue. When migrating this over to the new server, the Windows VM would perform very slowly during inital bootup, only output in 1280x1024 instead of 1920x1080, and then freeze when my password is entered to log in.
The new server has an R5 2600 Ryzen cpu (and an ASRock Rack x470d4u mobo), and the desktop I am moving from has a 1700X (MSI x470 Plus). Similar architecture, and I copied as many setting over as possible.
If I swap the display device to VirtIO or VGA the issues are immediately gone (but I lack the performace and ability to have multiple monitors which I love with QXL).
If I move the Windows VM back to the Fedora workstation I can use QXL displays again with great performance.
Any thoughts on what could be going on here? I am inclined to lean towards this being a software-related issue rather than hardware, but I am unsure what to update/downgrade/etc to get QXL displays working for my Windows 10 guest again.
