Linux mint on oracle vm

I'm looking for help for newbee on virtualbox with host running on win 7.
I have tried to find help for proper way to shutdown the guest running Mint 20x.
I am losing changes when I shut down guest. I often have to use a restore a snapshot. It can't be that hard but danged if I can find a good answer.

thanks,
Roger

Just as with a physical server, it is best to shut down applications in the reverse order you started them. then do the OS shutdown command/process. Every time you resort to the VirtualBox management to do a shutdown it is as if you pulled the power on a physical servers: an option rife with opportunities for corruption.

On the task bar at the bottom of the window on the left side is the linux mint logo. Similar to the Windows start menu, click the logo and then at the bottom of the menu should be a red button that displays the universal power symbol. Press the power button and then the pop message shutdown button.

Hello and Thanks!
I created a new vm and now it works as you explained. I was doing that on the old vm, but it didn't work.
I have gone thru several changes to the win 7 host. I actually switched to a win 10 os and set up everything new on the vm and it works now.
Still learning!

Roger

Thanks for the update and solution. Wonder why the other failed? Improper shutdown should have saved much of your work and daily changes.
