K12LTSP-5.0.0EL on VMware 2.0.1
Dear Experts,
I am using VMware as a virtualization solution. I am facing a strange
networking problem. As all you know that vmware virtual switch provide DHCP on Host Only and NAT level. I have configured K12ltsp as a virtual client. LTSP gives IPs on the LAN dynamically, meanwhile virtual switch also giving the IP dynamically. In this situation my LTSP Client boot up fails by giving the error that two DHCP services are running in you LAN. Guide me that how can i use networking in my Virtual guests by stop DHCP Service.
When the {winxpvm} has been set to use "Public (select WAN IP Mapping)". In the "Address Assignment" column you should set winxpvm to use static, or private if those options are available. I would also for the time being at least uncheck the box to disable the firewall. Even though the the IP addy on that machine isn't static it would be ok to lie to the 2wire here because you aren't using its DHCP service anyway.
Why does it seem DHCP isn't actually disabled even though you turned it off on the 2wire gateway? I surmise...
When you tell the 2wire that this machine is going to use a Public IP it bridges the ISP network too it. Then when you choose one of the public IPs from the dropdown list it is delivered from the ISP sticky DHCP service not the DHCP service on the 2wire gateway (because the 2wire is bridging the networks).
Another thought, since the machine name is winxpvm does that indicate that this is a virtual machine? If so you need to ensure that the virtualiztion software is creating unique MAC addresses for each virtual network adapter it is using. The 2wire indexes the machines internally by MAC address so if you have for instance 2 virtual machines running on one physical machine and your virtualization software didn't create 2 MAC addresses for the virtual adapters the 2wire won't know the difference between the 2 virtual network adapters.
