enlarging xen domU guest's virtual disk image file

Hello,

I've read loads of instructions on the internet about how to enlarge a domU guest's virtual disk image file. All of them give the following example

dd if=/dev/zero bs=1G count=1 >> virtualdisk.img

which adds 1GB to the disk image file. However even after reading the
man page for dd I'm still not quite clear about how the options to dd work. Suppose I want to add 5GB to the image file, should I do

dd if=/dev/zero bs=1G count=5 >> virtualdisk.img

or

dd if=/dev/zero bs=5G count=1 >> virtualdisk.img?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Terence

dd if=/dev/zero bs=1G count=5 >> virtualdisk.img

The other option consumes a huge block of 5GB RAM while running.
