Difference between CPU Usage from Vcentre end and OS end - RHEL5

Hi,

One of the VM went unresposnive of RHEL5, while checking we found that CPU utilization from Vcentre was 100%. In the same ref. we have rebooted it, while later on checking sar -A we found that it shows 90 % CPU idle during the same interval.

I would like to understand why there is discrepancy of both the details.

Thanks

Rajan

Did you bother to look at the disk/network I/O of the VM from vCenter?
If the VM is I/O bound, you're not going to see that in the CPU utilization of the guest OS because of the abstraction in the hypervisor.
