bonding with bond0, but VMware Workstation does not see bond0

Running the latest VMware Workstation, 7.1.4 build-385536 under Linux with kernel 2.6.39.3. My original setup on this laptop was with eth0 as my primary NIC and whenever I would go mobile I would switch to wlan0. Doing so I would lose connection on certain things since they were still seeing eth0 so I had to restart them so that they could see the "new" wlan0 connection. VMware was working fine under this setup... somewhat. Anyway, I've discovered a solution to this and that was with the use of bonding. Currently I have bonding, mode 1, active-backup, working fully under Linux as I can disconnect one interface and still be connected with the other.

My problem is now VMware, which I have set to bridged with vmnet0, can no longer connect to the network. Under Virtual Network Editor for vmnet0, the dropdown box for "Bridge to:" is set to Automatic and if you try to select something else the only options are eth0 and wlan0. bond0 is not listed for some reason, which is what I want to use. For some reason when it's set to Automatic VMware only works when eth0 is plugged in. If I switch to wlan0, I have to specifically set the "Bridge to:" wlan0 as well. Anyone have any suggestions on why VMware does not see the bond0 interface? I have already tried to uninstall and then reinstall VMware to no avail.
