Anyone running VMWare Player or Workstation on CentOS 6.2 with an ATI card?

I am (was) making good progress with my CentOS 6.2 build. Tonight I started installing software. The first big chunk was VMWare Player 4.0.4. Install went smoothly. I then tried to run an existing VM and got a message
Quote:
VMware Player unrecoverable error: (mks) A serious error has occurred inside the computer's OpenGL graphics drivers.
Research on VMWare's site tells me it is related to the video driver (duh!) and basically $#!& happens. I have the latest drivers from ATI amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run. I also have an older and a beta driver which I may try tomorrow.

The video card is a Radeon HD5450. It runs fine with Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit (but not with 12.04 thus the migration to CentOS).

I had CentOS 6 running VMWare Player with an nVidia card last year. I do don't recall if I tried it with the ATI card. The ATI card fixed a suspend/resume issue with Ubuntu and CentOS sort of got shelved for a while. I guess may also have to put the nVidia card back in and see what happens.

Bottom line... can anyone offer any experience or suggestions? Do you have VMWare running on CentOS 6.2 in a desktop environment (not server)? What sort of hardware, especially video?

TIA,

Ken

I think I have this fixed. I tried older and newer (beta) drivers from ATI and even CentOS 32 bit. Finally I tried kmod-fglrx from elrepo.org Seems to be working fine. I would still be interested to learn what others have experienced.
