I download the latest samba rpms - i am trying to use yum to install the rpms however it won't resolve the dependency- I also tried yum localinstall samba-common-3.0.24-1.i386.rpm however i still get the same error
# yum install samba-common-3.0.24-1.i386.rpm

yum can only resolve deps with it's own software, why did you downlaod samba from somewhere non-standard?? just run "yum install samba" nad let it worry about where to get it from.
I downloaded samba from samba.org http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binar...S/i386/core/6/ very trust worthy website.
the reason y i want to install the new samba is because its the latest version and newer than the package that came with fedora 6.
do you know any other way to upgrade or to install from scratch?
yum install samba doesn't give you the latest version
no, "yum install samba" mightn't give you the latest versoin and that's the point. it hasn't got access to the other up to date rpm's to satisfy teh dependencies, otherwise it WOULD be the latest version. if you want to install them from elsewhere, you need *all* the depes from there as well.
