Yellow Dog Linux multimedia software

Hello, I am new to these forums and the Linux world. I recently installed Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) version 5.0.1 on my PS3. My main goal in doing this is so I can use my PS3 as a central media hub to play all of my iTunes AAC encoded files along with some mpeg-4 and vxid/divx movies. The PS3 can play my iTunes AAC files just fine but it cannot read their track ID information tags so it is pretty much useless. I am looking for software that will work on YDL on my PS3 (which uses the PowerPC architecture). I would like jukebox software that is similar in UI to either iTunes, foobar2000, or Winamp as I am familiar with those programs. As for video playing software, it doesn't really matter what the UI looks like as long as it has a GUI that is simple enough to understand. I have tried to get VLC up and running but the self installers don't work and I have tried other software like Amarok as well but couldn't find a self installer that would work with Yellow Dog Linux. I thought YDL used the Fedora core but none of the Fedora core installations worked.

Since I am new to the Linux world, I would prefer not to have to compile anything for my OS. I would like to find a self installing program. If there isn't such a thing then I hope that there is one that is easy to compile and comes with step-by-step instructions even for a complete Linux idiot like me.

Thanks for the help. So far, I am liking what I am seeing.

check out amarok, or xmms. Both look and work like itunes and winap (respectively). I don't know if you can play aac files on linux, but if you can, it's probably a simple codec (I don't know if we have cracked the DRM).

I tried Amarok before but I couldn't find any version that would work with YDL. I tried the Kubuntu, Suse, Fedora, Debian, Mandriva, Gentoo, Arch, Ark Linux, and all the other ones in the Other Linux downloads, none of them worked. I will check out xmms though, I just need to get the internet up and running on my PS3. I tried messing with getting the wi-fi card to work but it doesn't and not the standard ethernet doesn't work either.

Well, I ditched YDL as I found out it was using the old Fedora 5 core and I wanted a more recent OS on the PS3. I installed Ubuntu and got both Amarok and XMMS up and running. My only problem with XMMS is that I have to compile the AAC plug-in and I can't/don't want to do that. All the instructions in their installation file just confused me (again, I am new to the Linux world). I also preferred the UI of Amarok over XMMS anyway. Amarok will not play my mpeg-4 AAC files though. The were encoded using the iTunes AAC encoder and do not contain any DRM. Amarok can actually read the track ID information for my AAC files (which is a step in the right direction) but it will not play them.

Is there a plug-in that I can download for Amarok to play the files? I am now using Ubuntu and am on the PowerPC 64-bit architecture.
