Yahoo messenger for Suse

I was happy to hear that yahoo has ported there messenger to linux, but when I went to there site they only have downloads for redhat or debian, this really sucks, I dont understand why they dont support more of the major distros

Suse and Mandrake should definatly be supported at very least!!!

you can try to repackage one of the available packages that yahoo does
have, or you can just stick with ymessanger, for now :S

I dont like gaim or kopete because there is no simple way to block file transfer, where as yahoo has it has an option.

The Redhat package of Yahoo! Messenger will work perfectly well under SuSE, or at least it worked prefectly well for me under SuSE.

Ah, I see, does it have the options in it to disable file transfer? Also can you use the chatrooms with it, like the windows version?

Yim (Yahoo Instant messenger) RedHat .rpm should work under SuSE ...

It comes without voice chat but joining chatrooms work.

But I had problems with recieving files ... so I switched to "gaim" (which is also for several other messengers)

See my signature and browse "guru" site - he has a new .rpm for SuSE if you want to try gaim ...

How do you join chatrooms with the Lnux version of Yahoo! Messenger? I've been regularly using it for more than 18 months, and have never found a way to join chatrooms. There's certainly no mention of chatrooms in the menu structure!

The unix version of messenger sucks ass. It's SO limited compared to the windows version. Gaim and Kopete actually have better functionality than the official client.

1. Download http://www.politicalcrossfire.com/te...nstall.tar.bz2 , and save it to your home directory (important!).

2. Run these commands in the terminal, in sequential order:

I agree fully!! Even though I'm an end user I'm a fan for VOIP and SUSE should have been the first distribution activated. I'm currently on SuSe 10.1.
