xmule-1.6.1.tar.gz - how to install? / how to use Wine?

Hi, I'm a new linux user using Mandrake 9.0.

I'd like to know how to install xmule-1.6.1.tar.gz . I've found some information about on another thread but it wasn't enough for me, because when I type make or make install, nothing happens.

The other question is : Where can I find Wine and how to use/install/etc..?

Thanks!

Check out this page - http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/ - and follow the instructions to add the 'contrib, plf, texstar, and update' sources. You do this by opening up a terminal window, (Konsole, gnome-term, rxvt, etc) and entering each of the commands that are generated at the bottom of the website. Or you can put all of the commands on one line and have them execute themselves one after another by doing something like this -

urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://knight.zarb.org/pub/plf/mandrake/9.1 with hdlist.cz ; urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.tugraz.at/mirror/Mandrake-...1/contrib/RPMS with ../../i586/Mandrake/base/hdlist2.cz ; ...

This will setup the Mandrake packaging system, urpmi, which is very similar to apt and has a very good front end - rpmdrake, to install various programs and update your system easily. After you are done setting that up you can execute the following command "urpmi xmule" as root and urpmi will automatically download and install everything that you need to run xmule as well as putting an entry in your menu. You can also open up rpmdrake and you'll find that xmule and many other programs are now available to be installed at any time.

You'll also find Wine and various other wine-related programs also are available. The command "urpmi wine" will install wine for you automatically.

If you have any questions about this process feel free to ask.

ok, it seems to have installed ok... but there is a new problem. The application doesn't start... it happens with some other apps too, like tuxracer (which used to work fine but hasn't worked for the last two days)... sometimes even xmms doesn't start... why does that happen and how to fix?
The app goes to the menubar but it closes after some seconds without opening a window...
