xmms cd playback bad

Hi

when I play a cd through xmms it's very laggy (ie a little pause every second or so).
cds play fine though workbone or whatever.
also i notice that the hd led flashes a LOT when playing the cd which seems strange to me.
mp3s play nicely, no probs, only cd not good.
Can anyone help with the lag problem?

slack 9, athlon 1700 w/ 512 meg ram, alsa 9.6 drivers, xmms using oss.

Hmm,, XMMS works like a dream for me. Try downloading the souce and recompiling it.

thanks for the suggestion, I have a hunch that won't fix it though...
i'll try when i get a chance to d/l it anyway.

for some reason it looks like the CD is being cached to the hard drive (would explain why my hard drive light flashes when playing cd). Is there a way to stop xmms doing this? i've tried changing the buffering setting but no joy...

please help me

I'm not really sure. When XMMS reads the cd, it converts the audio from the cd into a wav format. So thats whats probably going on in your system.
